Three Weeks in Baja!

All of the images below link to larger images.
Most of these photos (and all the wildlife photos) were taken by Tombi Ericson.

Todos Santos

This is the beach near Brock and Cydney's house in Todos Santos.
We spent most of our vacation time in Todos Santos, and much of it near this beach.
One of our favorite memories from this trip was falling asleep listening to the sound of these roaring waves (and the crickets).

Morgan and I flew down to Baja on April 7 with the Ericson family.
Cynthia stayed behind to be with Anna, who was very ill and in the hospital.
(Cynthia came down and joined us a week later after Anna recovered)

A couple of pater familias!

I was really stoked to be on vacation with the Ericsons.
It was really cool to be able to spend so much time with my buddy Nick and his family.

We found ourselves playing with big waves on the local beach right away.

This photo was taken from the beach lagoon that is on the Tropic of Cancer.
The photo is facing east, toward town.

The kids!

We visited Pescadero beach with Brock to get some fresh fish.
It turned out that the boats were all full to the brim with squid.
Brock found one fish and bought it for us.
Later that day, Tombi made us her special Baja fish tacos!
Chillin' at 'home'.

This is the living room of the house we got to call home while we were in Todos Santos.
Brock and Cydney sold this house on one of our last days down there.
Good for them. Bad for us!

Below: some photos from around the garden.

Nick's 40th Birthday!

Some scenes from hanging around at the house (and at Brock and Cydney's house).

We also celebrated Kiah's fifth birthday in Todos Santos!
I don't have photos from the party, but there was decorations, cake, presents, and margaritas.

Las Palmas Beach (Pacific)

This is my favorite beach near Todos Santos.
There is a little fresh water stream that runs down the edge of the beach to the ocean.
The kids loved playing in the stream while the adults took turns playing in the waves.

Cerritos Beach (Pacific)

We also spent a day at Cerritos, which is a popular surfer beach.

La Paz

The Ericsons rented a fancy condo at a deluxe resort in La Paz.
We got to spend a few days playing in the resort's pool and exploring the city.

A boat took us from La Paz out to the peninsula where the resort was.

Ahhhhhhh.....

This is where Cynthia joined us.
There were some mishaps with the bus from Cabo San Lucas to La Paz, but she made it to the La Paz bus station where the Taylors were reunited!
Shortly thereafter, Cynthia found herself in the pool with a nearby margarita.

Tombi got up early and caught the sunrise.

The three young ladies heading into town.

Espiritu Santos (Sea of Cortez)

On our last day in La Paz, we went on a tour of the nearby beautiful island of Espiritu Santos.

We stopped on a beautiful little beach with a small reef.
We snorkled and played around for about an hour.

On the way to the sea lion rocks, we had a real treat.
Our guide slowly boated around a small bay for about 30 minutes so that we could watch and cheer on the pod of dolphins that was playing with our boat.
The dolphins dashed around in the wake of the boat, circled around, dove under us, and generally acted like joyous and playful beings.

Cynthia and I jumped in the water with these guys briefly.
Nick was taking pictures of rocks and cacti at the time...

Balandra Beach (Sea of Cortez)

The Ericsons flew home after two weeks.
It was suddenly quiet (too quiet) around the house. Morgan missed the other girls right away.
We had another week left, so we took a day to return to the Sea of Cortez and to visit a beautiful beach, Balandra.

Brock loaned us his truck and kayaks.

Balandra Bay is no more than two feet deep, all the way across (at low tide anyway)!

The water was really warm. This was a natural kiddie-pool!

These are the same kayaks that I used to use in Lake Whatcom when I was a teenager.

Morgan loved swimming around, even though she could easily stand in the shallow water.
Cynthia was able to walk across Balandra Bay, pulling Morgan in the kayak.

The last few days in Todos Santos

After two weeks down there, I finally hit my stride. I was getting used to the life. Ahh...
We spent a few lazy days around home and at the local beach.
Cynthia and I also celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary.

Morgan in mid-air!

A surprise family photo! Whatcha doin' with that knife there Cydney?

Madre
Thanks to Brock and Cydney for the house and the hospitality.
Thanks also to the Ericson family for sharing your La Paz condo and your vacation time with us. It was fun hanging out with you!

Alright, I gotta work on Monday. I'm swimming home! See ya!
